For many years Bob did home renovations & improvements and at the same time worked on numerous other wood working projects. In 1990 he started making raised panel cabinet doors for kitchen cabinets for an older home that he purchased in Illinois. This is when his wood working career really began. Over the years he has increased his shop tools to a point enabling him to build all types of furniture and in 1999 Bob's daughter Maureen gave him a book called “The Art Of The Lathe” and the saga began. Already having a lathe for turning table legs, turning bowls looked relatively easy. Since then bowl making has been an exciting adventure and he now specializes is making segmented bowls. Many of his designs came from his daughter’s suggestions or requests. The biggest seller was requested by his other daughter Irene who asked "Dad could you make me a cross bowl that I could give to my Sunday school teachers as a gift?" Well over 1600 bowls later Bob is still searching for new designs and developing his turning skills. He never thought he would be called an "artist" but working with wood on a lathe has become his artistry. There is not a day goes by that time is not spent in his shop. After spending many years in the industry moving around the country Bob retired and moved to North Carolina with his wife Mary. He now has an oversized garage (28' x 30') with a 20' x 28' workshop upstairs as well.
